Math ADEPT, the Allied Delmarva
Enhancement Program for Teachers, is a suite of
graduate-credit bearing, active-learning
mathematics content courses with a middle school focus,
designed to meet the professional development needs of inservice
teachers.
Math ADEPT was launched with generous support from
the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Maryland Higher Education
Commission (MHEC).
For more information, please see About Math ADEPT, a Flyer for Teachers and other
school personnel which describes the nature, philosophy, and common
threads of the program. See also the section about the ADEPT Courses
in the left-hand menu.
The eight courses developed under Math ADEPT (6 NSF-sponsored, and
2 MHEC-sponsored) formed the basis of
the
Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Middle School Mathematics (CMSM)
degree, and also helped launch (and form the basis for the
middle-school track of)
the Masters
of Science in Mathematics Education (MSME), the first Masters
degree offered by SU's Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.
The eight ADEPT courses are thus institutionalized, and integrated into
the department's
Graduate Programs.
At the same time, the ADEPT program (and this website) are on-going
projects for a variety of reasons:
-
From time to time, Math ADEPT sponsors workshops such as the summer 2003 workshop for
Delmarva teachers and administrators, and the summer 2005 Math ADEPT
K-16 Collaboration workshop, in which groups of university teacher
educators, teamed with K-12 teachers and administrators, came to SU
from six states to learn about the ADEPT model.
-
This website serves as a permanent resource for the mathematics
education community, including teacher educators and others interested
in founding programs similar to ADEPT. It serves as a repository of
articles, tips on "lessons learned", and will also include key aspects
of the history of the ADEPT program. In particular, see
the ADEPT CRBs link in the menu on the left.
-
We are in the process of updating the Discussion board,
to serve as a forum for for teacher-to-teacher communication, support,
and information sharing, as well as for asynchronous communications
among others interested in ADEPT and similar professional development
programs for mathematics teachings. See
the Discussion Board in
the menu on the left.
