Hi Maria, I just talked with Beverly West (she gave me some calculus videos to look at (they were reserved for her at the libr. but she's about to leave town for a few days so is passing them on to me)). Anyway, I mentioned to her that you and I were talking about implementing some kind of alternative/innovative teaching. I also asked about her comment that she's "not close to the centers of power" -- apparently that means, primarily, the Curriculum Committee. ...I suggested that I'd say to Peter Kahn that several of us grad students were thinking about this issue, and would like to pursue it with Beverly West, and also get his advice. She said that doing that would be just fine. She also said to talk to Tom Rishel. I didn't ask her specifically, but from the way she said it (I could be mistaken) it seemed that Rishel, although he may not be enthusiastic about "reform", is not as reluctant about it as we might have been thinking. So, what do you think? Have you gotten others "on board" on this? And do you want to join me together to talk to Rishel and Kahn? Harel P.S. -- what is "velika!!!" ------------------------------------------------------------------ * Login name: gargova In real life: Maria Gargova - * Math Grad. - Prof. Shore * Directory: /usr/mc4/gargova Shell: /bin/csh * Last login Wed Nov 3 17:05 on console * Mail last read Wed Nov 3 17:05:58 1993 * * To do my best, or at least to try... * * Local address: Home adress: * 001A Thurston Court 40 F Shrewbury Green Drive * Cornell University Shrewsbury, MA 01545 * Ithaca, NY 14850-2444 * Telephone: (607)257-7529 Telephone: (508)795-7189 * * Alternate email addresses: * mgargova@vax.clarku.edu * mgar@aleph0.clarku.edu * mg28@cornell.edu * * Matematikata e velika!!! ##################################################################
