DNA Computing Update

Although it is considered "controversial", some researchers (e.g. at CalTech) have suggested that DNA has conductivity sufficient to use as "wiring" for a computer.

Recently, researchers from Switzerland have published on this. (CNN, 4/1/99).

This is extremely enticing, since, if this controversial idea turns out to be workable, we would have "the best of both worlds" -- "DNA computing" as in "programmable, self-assembling molecular structures" would be used to create molecular-level DNA-based "circuits" from which "DNA computing" -- in a completely different sense of the word -- could be created.
