Limits with Infinity
Directions:

In the space below, draw a careful sketch of a function f(x) such that:

  • The limit as x approaches negative infinity of f(x) is 5;
  • The limit as x approaches positive infinity of f(x) is negative infinity;

  • f(x) is decreasing for x less than or equal to -2;
  • f(x) is increasing when x is between 1 and 5;
  • There is a (local) maximum at x=5.

  • f(-2)=0=f(6)

  • The limit of f(x) as x approaches 1 from the left is positive infinity;
  • The limit of f(x) as x approaches 1 from the right is -1.
